Decarbonizing maritime transport is not a trend; it is a regulatory obligation. At Hidramar Group / Tenerife Shipyards, we have built the technical capacity to make it possible exactly when the industry needs it most. Recently, we had the honor of participating in the II Maritime Electric Propulsion Technologies and Port Electrification Conference. Organized by the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Universidad de La Laguna, this event was born with a clear objective that we fully share: to analyze and disseminate the latest solutions for decarbonization, with a special emphasis on the reality of the Canary Islands. Our Industrial Response: The Hidramar Ultra 22000 As our CTO, Rafael J. Rolo, highlighted in his presentation “From the Port to the Future,” the Canary Islands lacked the necessary Panamax infrastructure to absorb the current demand for sustainability. The Hidramar Ultra 22000 closes that gap, functioning as an advanced platform for:
• Retrofitting and Conversion: Adapting vessels to electric and hybrid propulsion, as well as new fuels.
• Energy Efficiency: Integrating VFDs, energy management systems, and Energy Saving Devices on deck.
• Port Electrification: Installing BESS systems and Onshore Power Supply (OPS) connections. Throughout these sessions, experts from the administration, industry, and research shared deep insights into the IMO, FuelEU Maritime, and EU ETS regulations that are transforming the sector. It was an excellent opportunity for professionals and students to get a first-hand look at the technological and operational advances of a constantly evolving market. We don’t wait for others to build the infrastructure of the future. We build it ourselves.
